About a
year ago I decided my Malm Ikea bed just needed some padding. I love
upholstered headboards, but didn’t really want to buy a new bed just because. I
read a lot in bed and the sharp edges aren't the nicest on my neck. So when I
found this tutorial I was over the moon.
However if you have ever seen a Malm
bed, you know the headboard is a bit thicker so I really needed to think it trough.
After I found a bulk of heavy white linen in my fabric storage I decided to
give it a go. I stamped the fabric with black dots, bought the padding...and
royally screwed up in the process.
- I chose a white fabric. Seriously, what was I thinking? The cover is washable, but still...
- I only put padding on the side that was facing the bed and the top... and was then surprised when the whole thing sagged to one side. Obviously, I’m not that smart.
- I used the iron-on Velcro, to fasten the cover, Velcro that then of course sadly dangled from the fabric, because gluing is never as good as the Velcro you can sew on. (And fyi, you can’t sew on a Velcro that was meant to be ironed on, because you WILL destroy your sewing needle with the sticky glue.)
So here is
my first try, and I’ll keep you updated how my next try is going.
